Things to know:
I'm Jewish, my wife's Irish. She loves Christmas more than anything in life. In December, we must watch every single Christmas movie around the clock (even the cheesy Lifetime movies with Tori Spelling). We also must listen to holiday tunes at home, on the road, and everywhere we go. We also must build a gingerbread house each year. She loves Christmas so much that for my wedding proposal, I decorated the entire apartment as Christmas --- tree, lights - the works. I also made a traditional Christmas meal of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and biscuits. The fact I'm not in the spirit lately has led me to create this blog. Christmas shopping at Gimbels, long before the Scum-mart revolution, when you got quality merchandise, the latest styles, with top notch service, at ridiculously low prices.
I miss the big G every day. All of their stores, whether you shopped the big ones in downtown Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Philly or New York, or the suburban outposts, were pleasurable, satisfying shopping experiences.
Another August goes buy, now 23 years since they closed. I still miss them, their huge chocolate covered strawberries, great restaurants, fantastic electronics, and of course, their lending library.
